From farming to a 4-star hotel: 1969–2019
The Forellenhof celebrates its 50th anniversary.
We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone who has contributed to making it possible for the Fuhrhop farm in Hünzingen to endure for more than 300 years. Even before we celebrated the opening of the hotel with the family – parents Gerda (née Masche) and Fritz Fuhrhop and also my sister Rita Fuhrhof – the Forellenhof has been witness to a long history of changes and significant events.
From the beginning we have received the support of our neighbours, who were always ready to help – as well as from the whole family. This is the story that my ancestors have passed down over the years and which I have experienced myself. Without them the Forellenhof would not be what it is today.
“You have to move with the times or the times move you“
This is an odd saying but unfortunately there’s a great deal of truth in it. We have recognised the signs of the times. For 3 years now, we have received more than just support from the family. Two years ago, the business was leased to Nils Fuhrhop. After his training and years spent abroad in top gastronomic establishments as well as attending the hotel management school in Hamburg, he is the right partner to run this business in a purposeful, responsible and family-oriented way in the future. Of course, Nils does not bear the responsibility for the business alone – but at our hotel it is just like on a ship: there is always only one captain.
We have decided to focus on sustainability in our products and to further emphasise their regional nature. We take great pleasure in keeping a herd of Welsh Black cattle on over 30 hectares of land. In addition to the products already supplied from the region, these are a special and personal sign of our regional focus.
