The trout farm celebrates 55 years of existence. “Our deepest thanks and respect go to all those involved who have made it possible that Fuhrhop’s farm in Hünzingen can now exist for over 300 years. Before we were able to experience the opening with the family – the parents Gerda (née Masche) and Fritz Fuhrhop as well as my sister Rita Fuhrhop – a lot happened. Several wars and reforms had to be survived, the fields had to be plowed and worked with oxen and horses and many a heavy loss of family members had to be overcome.

We have always been accompanied by good neighbors who were always ready to help – but also by the whole family. This is how I have always heard it from our ancestors and experienced it myself until today. Without them, the Forellenhof would not be what it is today.” Udo Fuhrhop

Who does not go with the times, goes with the times

This is somehow a strange saying, and yet unfortunately there is also a lot of truth in it. We have recognized the signs of the times. For 3 years now, we have been able to experience more than just support from the family. 2 years ago the business was leased to Nils Fuhrhop. After his training and years abroad in top gastronomic establishments as well as his attendance at the hotel management school in Hamburg, he is the right partner to run this business in a determined, responsible and family-oriented manner in the future. Of course, Nils will not be left alone with the responsibility for the operation – but it is like on a ship at our hotel: There is always only one captain.

Together, we have decided to place even more emphasis on sustainability in our products and to continue to emphasize regionality. It is with great pleasure that we keep a herd of Welsh-Black cattle of over 30 animals on over 30 hectares of land. These are, in addition to the products already supplied from the region anyway, a special and personal sign of our regionality.
