Welsh-Black from our own breeding

The Welsh Black is a breed of cattle from Wales in Great Britain. As the name suggests, the cattle are black. Usually they carry horns, but there are also some hornless lines. There are also individual red specimens of the breed.

This breed of cattle is a beef cattle breed that is kept outdoors all year round. Its particularly fine marbled meat with a high proportion of its own flavor and is mainly used in upscale restaurants. Weighing 35 kg at birth, adult cows reach a weight of 650 to 800 kg and bulls 900 to 1250 kg. In the meantime our herd consists of 23 cattle, which stand on different meadows.

Our cattle

We, the Fuhrhop family and especially the senior boss Udo Fuhrhop, as an old farming family, have been engaged in breeding these extraordinary animals since 2010.

The background is, besides the fact to cultivate own land, the regional reference of local products. Our far-reaching goal is to offer more and more regional products in our restaurant. In addition to trout, potatoes, asparagus, water, eggs, honey, cheese, sausage, blueberries, apples from our regional partners and our own beer, our Welsh Black cattle offer the ideal addition to the regional range of products.

We come from the farm. For many generations we have been managing our tradition-led farm here in the Lüneburg Heath. Our passion for nature and animals has always been carried on in our family. We farm and raise piglets and grow blueberries, apples, pears, cherries and plums on 15 hectares of agricultural land. We are particularly dedicated to keeping happy free-range hens, because this way you can taste the chickens happiness. In order to keep our chickens in a species-appropriate manner, we have decided to keep them in the open air in combination with ultra-modern chicken mobiles. Our chickens enjoy a lot of time outdoors and find the necessary protection in the mobile house. The advantage lies in the mobility whereby permanent fresh fodder can be guaranteed and the soil is protected.

With its conversion to organic farming in 1997, Biohof Eilte is one of the first organic farms in northern Germany. Until today, the farm, with its team of about 30 people, is in constant change, with sustainable and organic management always in focus. The farm is located in the beautiful Aller-Leine-Tal and is characterized today by the extensive agriculture, dairy cattle and also a herd of water buffaloes. Another special feature is the farm dairy, where the milk of the water buffalo and part of the cow’s milk are processed into various semi-hard, fresh and soft cheeses.

The farm’s own products, such as the particularly tasty potato varieties Linda and Belana, red and yellow onions, cheese specialties and various types of sausage made from water buffalo meat, can be bought throughout the year in the farm store in Eilte. Garlic, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and physalis expand the offer depending on the season. The cheese can also be found at various weekly- and farmers’ markets in the region.

What does the enjoyment of home mean to you?
For us, enjoying our homeland means producing high-quality products sustainably and in an environmentally friendly manner in the region for the region. For example, our water buffalo spend most of the year grazing on the meadows of the Allermarsch. Not only the buffaloes enjoy this original form of husbandry, where they are milked on the pasture on the spot, but also the fauna and flora in the Aller lowlands gain in diversity through this extensive form of utilization.

Hof Bostel – fresh, tasty & regional

Our farm is located in Benzen, southern of Walsrode, in the middle of beautiful heath landscape. Asparagus and strawberries are our main products – this is what we know best. Therefore, from April to June everything revolves around asparagus and strawberries. We produce with the highest quality standards, because we want to deliver only the best goods to our customers.

The farm is run by Gerhard-Adolf and Diana Bostel, together with their daughters, already in the fourth generation. Dairy cattle farming and agriculture were once the two branches of the farm. At the turn of the millennium, dairy farming was abandoned and we specialized in raising heifers. Since 1989 asparagus has been grown and sold as a special crop on the farm. Since the demand for our own strawberries has also grown strongly over time, we decided to grow strawberries outdoors in 2006. Since 2014, our farm also includes two foil tunnels, where strawberries are also grown.

Since 1992

Which products are supplied?
White asparagus, green and purple asparagus. Outside the asparagus season, we also supply our freshly harvested processed soup asparagus for wedding soup and other dishes.

What does the enjoyment of home mean to you?
For us, enjoyment at home means regionality, seasonality as well as a high demand on quality. Value should be placed on the shortest possible distances and tradition should be preserved. We place a lot of value on the proximity to our customers and therefore this is also important to us when we are purchasing something. For us as producers, the love of nature and sustainability is paramount. Our farm store in Benzen is therefore open daily from April to June from 08:00 – 18:00 – also on Sundays and holidays.

The “Straußenhof Heidekreis” is both a traditional and an innovative agricultural business. In 2016, the current owner Marcel Hambruch took over the parental farm and restructured the former pig farm, out of passion for the ostrich, into an ostrich farm. The daily visiting hours allow anyone interested to see for themselves the quality of the husbandry of the animals and the high quality products. Marketed is everything that the ostrich offers us, such as fillet, steak, roast, various types of sausage and of course the popular large ostrich eggs.
